Making Time for Social Media

Making Time for Social Media

If you own a business you know that time is important. Time costs money, and every business is in the business of making money. As a business owner, you want to know the ROI or Return on Investment for everything you or the business does. Cue Social Media.

Lots of people want to know the ROI of social media, and proponents of social media (like me) answer with “What is the ROI of a conversation with a potential customer?” because, ultimately, that’s what social media is, a conversation. There are measurements and analytics and scores and a whole hash of ways to “measure” how “well” you’re doing with social media, but if you don’t make the time and effort, it won’t do you any good.

There are quite a few social networks out there, now, and you need to know which ones will give you the biggest bang for your buck, as well as what you need to do in order to get that bang. Each platform has its own rules and its own etiquette, so you need to learn about each of them before you can begin really getting anything out of them. If you just fly in all willy-nilly and blast promotions and deals, no one will pay any attention to you.

There is a right way to promote yourself on social media.

Of course, learning takes time, and didn’t we just establish that time is money? So here are a few of my tips to help you:

  1. Create a profile using your logo as the avatar and completing as much of the “about” information as you can, keeping it the same across each platform. This is crucial to begin building your social media “brand”.
  2. Start thinking about getting a blog going on your website. This will help build your SEO (search engine optimization) as well as give you content to share in your social media campaigns.
  3. Set aside a few minutes every day to check on your social media and to post something new. (Check this video by my friend Bridget to learn more about this)

And of course, if you need some help managing your online profiles and getting your social media going, let me know! I would be happy to keep your social “face” updated and interesting!
