Social Media: Start With One!

Start with One Social Media Platform

Okay. This Social Media stuff can be a little overwhelming. Some of us have really busy schedules, especially if you are a small business trying to get your feet off the ground. I understand! So.. instead of trying to get everything going all at once, why not start with just one thing at a time?

What? Don’t start tweeting and facebooking and pinning all at once? No. If you really are that busy, most likely, adding to your plate is going to hurt you in the long run, especially if you are trying to learn all of the platforms at once, PLUS do everything else in your busy life!

If you start social media and then stop, or you aren’t consistent, than all that work will be sort of a waste.

Social media is all about engagement, consistency, and updates!

Take things one step at a time. I suggest doing things this way, to prevent yourself from hurting your brand in the long run:

  1. First thing to do would be to sign up for all of your social media platforms, to grab that username. You don’t want to do all this work on one platform under “ABC” just to find that on the next platform “ABC” has been taken by someone just to prevent you from having it.
  2. Focus on your first platform, let’s say Facebook, first. Learn how to use it, “like” other pages and start posting 2 times a day, once in the morning and once again in the afternoon (after lunch?), making sure to “like” and reply to comments. Once you’ve gotten into that habit, start commenting and “liking” other pages’ comments and posts.
  3. Now you’ve gotten more familiar with Facebook/your first network, you shouldn’t have to spend more than say 10 minutes commenting, posting, and “liking”, each time you login.
  4. Move on to your next platform! :)

Ultimately, you shouldn’t have to spend too much time on each platform, once you are accustomed to it. But, trying to start everything all at once could cause you to get frustrated, leading to inconsistent posting, less engagement, and failure.

The key is to get your social media going, even if that means slowly!

Let me know if you need any more help!
